Recently, news about Real Sociedad attacker Takefusa Kubo has been consistently reported by major media outlets, with reports suggesting that Liverpool are preparing to activate the 23-year-old player’s release clause. Liverpool’s Japanese national team captain, Hiroki Endo, who plays for the club, solidified these rumors in an interview with Japanese media.
Last weekend, Japanese media Sponichi Annex first linked Kubo with Liverpool, hinting that the Reds were preparing to bid £55 million (€65 million) for him. The report also hinted that the Reds had offered him a weekly wage of around £240,000, which would immediately make him one of the highest earners in the Liverpool squad. However, Spanish publication AS followed up with a detailed report, claiming that Liverpool are ready to activate Kubo’s release clause, valued at €60 million (£51 million).
While such figures seem a bit absurd from the perspective of transfer fees and salaries, and any reports of a deal being reached seem premature at this stage, Kubo’s attraction to big clubs is undeniable. The Japanese national team captain, who joined Liverpool last summer from Stuttgart in the Bundesliga, believes his teammate could be the “Salah successor.”
In an interview with Japanese Abema Sports Time, Endo said: “The search for Salah’s successor has already begun, and it has become an important focus for Liverpool to strengthen their squad. I believe that among the current Japanese national team players, the player who can replace Salah is Takefusa Kubo.”
