According to The Sun, West Ham are considering legal action against the Football Association to prevent the FA from handing Paquetá a lifetime ban.
The Sun reported last month that the FA were pushing for a lifetime ban for Paquetá over alleged illegal betting activity.
However, West Ham are backing Paquetá and are considering going to CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) to prevent the FA from holding a disciplinary hearing.
It is understood that West Ham are questioning whether the FA have jurisdiction over the case, given that the alleged illegal betting activity took place in Brazil, where Brazil has a higher burden of proof. Furthermore, West Ham believe that it is unfair to end a player’s career early through a disciplinary hearing.
Paquetá, 26, continues to maintain his innocence and is determined to clear his name. He played four times for Brazil at this summer’s Copa América, scoring once and providing an assist.
