Southampton manager Russell Martin has told BBC he believes the Saints will surprise some people in the new season.
Speaking in an interview, Martin said: “We’re not going to get back to the Premier League and then just be comfortable, if we don’t have the courage and belief in ourselves. We’ll do something else. In some games, we’ll be the underdog and we might look a little bit different but we won’t be parking the bus against the likes of Manchester City or Liverpool. We’re not going to do that.”
He continued: “There are going to be times where we get beaten, but there are going to be times where we enjoy beautiful moments and have brilliant games and good results. And maybe some of those will be unexpected. Maybe we’ll surprise a few people.”
Southampton returned to the Premier League last season after beating Leeds United in the Championship Play-off final. They face Newcastle United in their first league match of the new season.
