Amidst growing rumors of conflict with Ortega, Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has personally denied any discord between the two, stating they are simply in competition. Regarding transfer rumors, Ederson stated he is solely focused on preparing for the new season.
Previously, multiple British media outlets reported that Ederson was engaged in discussions with Saudi Arabian clubs Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal. While Al-Nassr withdrew from the competition after Manchester City demanded a £50 million transfer fee, Al-Hilal is still hoping to negotiate with City.
Following Ortega’s contract renewal with Manchester City, Ederson’s departure was accelerated. Particularly in last season’s match against Tottenham, Ortega’s outstanding performance helped Manchester City defeat their rivals, securing a crucial victory in their title defense. This performance jeopardized Ederson’s starting position, leading to his decision to leave.
However, Ederson subsequently refuted these rumors on social media, stating, “Some say I’m unhappy because of a conflict with a teammate. This is completely untrue. These so-called reports have severely affected me. Additionally, I was injured and missed the final stages of last season, and was unable to represent my country in the Copa América. These reports have deeply hurt me.”
Addressing the transfer rumors, Ederson simply stated, “My focus is currently on preparing for the new season. My desire is to start competing as soon as possible, which will allow me to concentrate more.”
Despite Ederson’s personal denial, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s previous ambiguous statements leave Ederson’s future uncertain. Only after the summer transfer window closes will it be known whether Ederson will remain at Manchester City.
