July 22 – Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeneß addressed rumors of defender Matthijs de Ligt potentially leaving the club in an interview with German media outlet Abendzeitung. The German acknowledged, “There are some defensive players who might leave. De Ligt is Dutch, and the Manchester United manager is also Dutch.”
However, he also stated his position, “If he chooses to stay, I wouldn’t have any doubts.” Hoeneß also pointed to the untouchability of Dayot Upamecano, “Personally, I wouldn’t sell him.”
According to reports, over 60,000 Bayern fans have signed a petition asking the club not to sell de Ligt since transfer rumors surfaced.
The Dutch center-back joined Bayern Munich in 2022 for €67 million and currently has three years remaining on his contract.
