Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has said he has no interest in taking over as England manager, in an interview with the Telegraph.

Eddie Howe: I won’t manage England, I want to win trophies with Newcastle

The FA announced Gareth Southgate’s departure as England manager recently and Howe has been one of the hot favourites to replace him. However, Howe has now stated that he is fully focused on managing Newcastle United.

“I am incredibly proud to be manager of Newcastle United. All my energies are in Newcastle, not in England. So as long as I am happy here, as long as I feel supported and as long as I can work freely in the way I want, then I don’t see myself going anywhere else,” said Howe.

“I absolutely love the club, I love the fans, I love where I am in my career. There is no better place for me than here.”

“The England talk is coming from other people, not from me. It’s about Newcastle. But when you’re Newcastle manager, to talk about other jobs is wrong. I don’t think I need to answer that (if he’d take the England job) again. My answer is clear.”

When asked whether he would prefer to manage England or lead Newcastle to a trophy, Howe said: “I wouldn’t (manage England). I would choose to win a trophy with Newcastle because I’m the manager of Newcastle United, all my passion is in Newcastle.”

“I love my country and I want my country to do well. I was disappointed for Southgate and the lads that they didn’t win the European Championship. But I don’t have that burning desire now. Maybe that will come at another stage in my career.”

“I’ve said before, if it happens at some point in the future, maybe that’s meant to be. If it doesn’t, then I am very, very happy with where I am, I love the management of this day-to-day.”
