According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Gangwon FC youngster Yang Min-hyeok has reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur and will officially join them after the end of the K League season. In an interview with Korean media, Yang Min-hyeok himself admitted “there were contacts” but his focus is still on playing well for Gangwon FC.
In Friday’s home game against Jeonbuk Hyundai, Yang Min-hyeok scored his 8th league goal of the season, helping Gangwon to a 4-2 victory. After the game, Yang Min-hyeok responded to recent transfer rumors, saying: “All the reports about my transfer are true to some extent. There haven’t been any formal offers yet, so it can all be considered speculation. But there were definitely contacts between the two clubs. I can’t let outside news affect my performance. I need to maintain my current performance and I think I’m working hard to do that.”
In this season’s K League, Yang Min-hyeok is only 4 goals behind Yushchenko, who is currently leading the scoring charts. Therefore, the 18-year-old believes he can challenge for the Golden Boot in the remaining games. Yang Min-hyeok said: “My goals are accumulating, and I think I can boldly challenge for the title of top scorer.”
When asked about being selected for the K League All-Star team to play a friendly against Tottenham, Yang Min-hyeok’s response was very calm: “It’s an honor to be selected for the All-Star team and play against Tottenham. But if I try too hard to impress, I might not be able to show my true ability. I think I just need to play relaxed as usual, and the game will go well.”
