No summer reinforcements for Liverpool? Klopp says current squad is good enough

At 7:30 AM on July 27th, Liverpool will face their first pre-season opponent: Real Betis. Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp attended the pre-match press conference.

When asked why he hadn’t reinforced the squad during the summer transfer window, Klopp replied: “At this stage, I think it’s quite difficult to assess the current squad because most of the main players haven’t come with us to the United States. Secondly, the team I inherited is good enough, so it’s not easy to find players of the same level or even higher. Richard Hughes works harder than me to keep me informed of the latest developments. We already have a good team and I am satisfied, but if we don’t sign any players, it will be a surprise to all of us.”

“In terms of style, many things will remain the same, every coach has their own ideas. The players are working really hard, we are looking forward to this match and seeing if we can bring some positive things to the game. I don’t think any player has surprised me. We’ve had many young players join, and some have surprised me… in a positive way, of course. But if your next question is ‘Who are they?’, then you won’t get an answer!”

For this US pre-season tour, as many as 11 players have not joined the squad. This includes Alisson, Van Dijk, Arnold, Núñez and Mac Allister who are all on holiday after representing their respective nations in the European Championships or the Copa América.
