Former Manchester City financial advisor Stephen Belsom has said that City are looking to learn from Manchester United’s mistakes and avoid a simultaneous departure of Pep Guardiola and key staff like Txiki Begiristain and Ferran Soriano.
Belsom said: “From a club planning perspective, City will definitely be prepared and will try to ensure that these key individuals don’t leave at the same time.”
“United had this issue, with Sir Alex Ferguson and David Gill leaving in the same summer. In many ways, the last 10 years of struggles at United can be attributed to that.”
“It’s a big issue when key personnel in the footballing side of the club depart. But considering how deeply involved these people are in the day-to-day running of City, I don’t think they will allow them to leave at the same time. If they do want to go, the club will ensure a smooth transition as possible.”
“We don’t know if Soriano and Begiristain want to leave, their thoughts might be different.”
