On July 22nd, Chelsea Football Club officially announced the signing of 19-year-old American full-back Caleb Wiley from Major League Soccer side Atlanta United. The deal is for six years with an option for a further year.
Born in December 2004, Wiley is a versatile player who can operate as a left-back, left wing-back, and even left-winger.
To date, Wiley has made 77 appearances for Atlanta United in MLS, scoring 6 goals and providing 5 assists. He has also been named in the United States’ Olympic squad, where his performance will be worth watching.
According to Romano, Chelsea have signed him from Atlanta United for a fee of £8.5 million. He is not expected to be part of Chelsea’s first team squad next season and may be loaned out to Ligue 1 side Strasbourg for a year.
