Liverpool set €55m asking price for Van Dijk, Saudi representatives: Exit talks if no reduction

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool have indeed been in contact with Saudi clubs regarding a potential transfer for Virgil van Dijk, but they have set a €55m asking price for the defender. Saudi representatives have stated that this price is far beyond their expectations and have threatened to exit talks if there is no reduction.

Following the end of the European Championship, and with the Netherlands failing to reach the final, van Dijk has expressed an openness to playing in the Saudi Pro League. It is reported that van Dijk’s team has met with Saudi representatives to discuss the potential offer.

In an interview, van Dijk also stated that he will carefully consider his future: “This summer I will have to carefully consider my situation at Liverpool, and as a member of the national team, I need to recover from the disappointment of the European Championship as soon as possible. We have been through a lot in the past year.”

Liverpool are also open to van Dijk’s departure, although they will not stand in his way if he decides to join the Saudi Pro League. However, with van Dijk’s contract having just one year remaining, they have demanded a €55m transfer fee. Saudi representatives have rejected this valuation, stating they will withdraw from negotiations if the price is not lowered.

Liverpool’s newly appointed sporting director, Jorg Schmadtke, has publicly opposed allowing van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold to leave the club: “We want them all to continue playing for Liverpool next season.” Despite their dissatisfaction with the price, the Saudi side is not prepared to give up on van Dijk. If these negotiations fail, they could return with a renewed pursuit in the winter transfer window.
