UK Expert: Man Utd Should Donate Greenwood Transfer Fee To Charity, Calls For Fans To Donate Per Goal

David Challen, a prominent European anti-domestic violence campaigner, has called on Manchester United to donate the transfer fee from any sale of Mason Greenwood to charity on Twitter (X).

He questioned: “Man United are a massive global sports club, earning hundreds of millions of pounds every year, yet they didn’t drop a player — which would have been easy to do — but instead chose to keep him for financial reasons, effectively putting corporate financial needs above women.”

Challen also hinted at a lack of concern for women by Man Utd’s new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe: “He’s concerned about the men’s team’s success on the pitch, but wasn’t present when the women’s team won a major trophy (Women’s FA Cup).”

It’s not just David Challen calling for this, in Marseille, France, local associations against violence against women are actively calling for “No Welcome for Greenwood” to become a trending topic on French social media. Of course, “Welcome Greenwood” is another trending tag. Marseille fan leader Tomasi wrote on social media: “There are things we can’t control, but some we can. I promise to donate 5 Euros to charities that help abused women every time Greenwood scores a goal. Whether everyone is welcome in Marseille or not, it doesn’t stop you from donating to charities against violence against women, does it?”

Currently, a large number of fans have supported and shared this proposal, not only Marseille fans, but also supporters of Marseille’s arch-rivals Paris Saint-Germain.

Greenwood himself has spoken about this issue recently, saying: “I understand the debate, I can understand that. I don’t want to get involved in any controversy, things are in the past, we should look to the future.”
