July 24, The Football Association (FA) has announced that the Prince of Wales, Prince William, has been appointed as the official Patron of the FA, succeeding Queen Elizabeth II.
The FA’s official announcement reads as follows:
We are delighted to announce that The Prince of Wales will become Patron of The FA, a role previously held by Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Since the passing of the Queen, the Royal Household has undertaken a significant review of royal patronages and charity presidencies. The Prince of Wales has been President of The FA since 2006 and a member of the Royal Family has provided additional support as Patron of the organisation since 1939.
Given the active role of The Prince of Wales within The FA, the Presidency position will not be filled at this time.
