According to the latest report from Japanese media outlet Sponichi Annex, Japanese international Takefusa Kubo is on the verge of joining Premier League side Liverpool for a transfer fee of €60 million (approximately ¥10.2 billion). He is said to be set to earn an annual salary of €15 million.
Multiple sources in England have revealed that Kubo’s agent has arrived in the UK recently, and negotiations are in the final stages of finalizing details. A deal could be reached very soon.
Sources have indicated that Kubo is highly motivated to join Liverpool and has already started learning English with his eyes set on participating in the Premier League. The presence of his Japan national team teammate, Wataru Endo, in the current Liverpool squad is also a factor in promoting the transfer.
It is said that Kubo is Liverpool’s biggest reinforcement target this summer transfer window, as they hope he will become the successor to Mohamed Salah.
However, no foreign media outlets have yet confirmed the rumors of Kubo’s transfer, and the Japanese media outlet’s claims are largely based on “sources.”
Kubo, 23, is a right-winger who came up through the youth ranks at Kawasaki Frontale. He began his journey abroad at a young age, joining La Masia for training in 2011. He signed for Real Madrid on a free transfer in 2019 before being sold to Real Sociedad for €6.5 million in 2022. He has made 85 appearances for Real Sociedad, scoring 16 goals and providing 14 assists.
