Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has suggested that the Red Devils need to address their shortcomings in attack if they are to achieve success next season.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Scholes said: “I hate to keep going back to our era, but United desperately need strengthening in attack. We had three or four world-class strikers back then and collectively we would score 80 to 200 goals.”
“Hojlund came in young last year and was asked to play every week and lacks competition. The club lacks quality and depth in that position. They are trying to solve it with [Alejandro] Garnacho. I don’t know if they’ll get one or two more but that’s definitely an area Man United need to improve on the pitch.”
Despite spotting some areas of serious improvement, Scholes remains optimistic that things are heading in a positive direction for his former club next season.
He added: “Now the club is settled down and it’s good. It seems a little more settled from the outside and from the backroom staff. The club signed two young lads and I haven’t seen too much of them to be honest, but the centre-half [Lisandro Martinez] has settled in really well. He looks like a good player. I haven’t seen much of the centre-forward [Alejandro Garnacho] either. Erik ten Hag staying is also a good thing for Manchester United.”
