According to The Sun, Arsenal co-chairman Josh Kroenke has stated his opposition to playing Premier League games in the United States, despite the massive offers from American broadcasters.
Last month, Liverpool chairman Tom Werner expressed his dream of seeing Liverpool play a Premier League game in New York. FIFA has also established a working group to study the issue, planning to approve the proposal.
However, there is significant disagreement within the Premier League regarding the organization of Premier League games in the US. Some clubs are in favor, such as Liverpool and Chelsea, but others strongly oppose it, like Arsenal co-chairman Josh Kroenke.
Kroenke pointed out, “While this (playing in the US) is certainly attractive for broadcasters or FIFA, we are very happy with the current schedule, both domestically and in Europe. As a football club, we have put in a lot of effort on and off the pitch in the past few years, with the right leadership in place. Our goal is to strengthen meaningful connections with supporters and, where appropriate, have fans assist us in formulating club policy, reinforcing their trust in our direction.”
Kroenke emphasized the importance of the passionate support of the fans at the Emirates Stadium to Arsenal, “Anyone who has been at the Emirates in recent years knows we have something very special right now. I believe the people in this stadium have been helping us turn our home ground into a fortress. We want to host as many games as possible here, allowing the players to feel the love of the fans and gain extraordinary energy from it.”
The Sun points out that, while there are many opponents within the Premier League to playing in the US, the topic of playing games overseas is being widely discussed in Europe. The official La Liga has expressed their hope to finalize plans for playing La Liga games abroad before the 2025-26 season.
