According to Manchester City correspondent Sam Lee, Pep Guardiola responded to Alvarez’s public statement about wanting more playing time by saying that he understands Alvarez’s perspective, but so do other players in the team.
Guardiola said: “I know what he said, he’ll think about it. When he’s thought about it, his agent will talk to Txiki [Begiristain], and then we’ll see what we do.”
“I understand that he wants to be there in the big moments, but so do others. There are 18 or 19 players who want to play in the big games, and I saw the reports that he wants to think about it, that’s fine, when he’s clear in his mind, he will tell us what he wants to do.”
“Alvarez has played quite a bit already, but he wants more? No problem. So I said he can take some time to think about it.”
