Elliott: Casley is the ideal England manager I’m ready to be called up by him

Midfielder Elliott, who is currently with the Liverpool first team in the US for pre-season training, recently said that he supports England U21 manager Lee Casley to become England’s senior team manager, and he is looking forward to his Three Lions debut soon.

Elliott: Casley is the ideal England manager I’m ready to be called up by him

Casley led England U21 to victory over Spain in the final to win the U21 European Championship last summer, and Elliott was a member of that Young Lions team. Now, Casley has been tipped as a candidate to replace Southgate, possibly becoming the senior team manager. In addition, Eddie Howe, Potter and even Guardiola and Klopp have become the hot topic of the media. Some questioned whether the former Everton midfielder was ready for such an important role, but Elliott had no doubt that he would be up to the task, one of the toughest in football.

Elliott said: “Lee is an incredible manager and an incredible person, he is ready to take this step. Many big clubs are looking at him, (being nominated) is an honor for him and his coaching staff. Whenever I step onto the field for England, I’m able to enjoy my football freely. I think Lee is ready, but ultimately it comes down to what he and the FA negotiate.”

Elliott is currently on a warm-up tour with Liverpool in the US, he missed this summer’s European Championship, while his Liverpool teammates Jones and Quansah were included in Southgate’s initial 33-man squad. In fact, Elliott has yet to earn a cap for England, and over the past 12 months he has had to watch his U21 teammates Palmer, Colwill and Anthony Gordon be promoted to the senior team.

However, Elliott remains calm, saying: “I want to be called up, of course, but the coaching staff have their own way and the players they want to watch and select, that’s what they do. Meanwhile, I’m happy to have a good holiday. I was with the U21s at the Euros last summer, so I didn’t get a full holiday, so it was good to be able to relax this summer, go home and see the family and prepare for this pre-season. Especially with a new manager at our team, I want to stay fresh and be ready for the new season.”
