July 31, Ahead of the third pre-season friendly against Club América, Chelsea manager Maresca held a press conference and addressed the team’s internal conflict stemming from alleged racial abuse by midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
Maresca stated, “To be honest, we are all comfortable, very good, because Enzo is back. He had a chat with all of us, just to clarify that he had no malicious intent, the lads accepted it. When asked about the club’s findings regarding the incident, Maresca replied, “Honestly, I don’t know, I don’t know. All I can say is that the club issued a statement, and the player issued a statement a few days ago. The player has come here, talked to his teammates, talked to us, and everything seems completely normal now, just like it was before.”
