On July 29, Liverpool officially announced that they have signed a professional contract with the son of former Reds striker Djibril Cissé, Prince Cissé. This means that the 18-year-old Prince has officially become a member of Liverpool’s U18 youth team and has become one of the first scholarship recipients at the AXA Training Centre.
Prince’s father played for Liverpool for three seasons between 2004 and 2007, his highlight being winning the Champions League trophy in the 2004/05 season. The French striker scored a penalty in the shootout to complete the miraculous comeback against AC Milan. During his time at Liverpool, Cissé made 82 appearances for the Reds, scoring 24 goals.
Prince is expected to follow in his father’s footsteps. Also a striker, he made his debut for Liverpool’s U18 youth team in March this year, and participated in the pre-season friendlies with the team this summer, getting a chance to play against Accrington Stanley, showcasing a solid playing style. Prince has also played for Wales’ U15 and U16 national teams. He made his debut for Wales’ U15 national team in March last year and after playing three international friendlies for the U15 national team, Prince was promoted to the U18 national team.
After successfully signing with Liverpool, Prince couldn’t hide his excitement. He posted on his personal social media platform: “I’m absolutely delighted to have signed a scholarship deal with the club I grew up supporting. This has been a dream since I joined when I was 4, now it’s a reality! Thank you to my mum, my family and the Liverpool staff for supporting me throughout the journey. I’m going to keep working hard!”
