Ghanaian forward Alejandro Garnacho sparks controversy by wearing a Jeddah Union shirt, fans question: Why not wear his idol Ronaldo’s jersey?

Recently, Alejandro Garnacho has once again sparked controversy on social media, this time for uploading a photo of himself on vacation wearing a Jeddah Union shirt, the Saudi club that is the arch-rival of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr.

Ghanaian forward Alejandro Garnacho sparks controversy by wearing a Jeddah Union shirt, fans question: Why not wear his idol Ronaldo’s jersey?

The 20-year-old Garnacho helped Argentina successfully defend their Copa América title earlier this month. Although he only played once, this didn’t prevent him from receiving permission to return to pre-season training later than his other Manchester United teammates. Garnacho is currently on vacation with fellow Manchester United teammate Facundo Pellistri, who also participated in the Copa América. However, it was the photo he uploaded with Pellistri that caused controversy – the photo shows Garnacho wearing a Jeddah Union shirt, seemingly in high spirits after training with Pellistri, and captioned “Work Done”.

Given that Garnacho has publicly expressed his admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo in recent years, often mimicking Ronaldo’s signature goal celebration when playing for Manchester United’s youth team, some fans on social media were surprised by his actions. One user wrote on social media, “I thought Garnacho’s Saudi team was Al Nassr.” Another fan added, “Honestly, it feels a little strange seeing Garnacho in a Jeddah Union shirt.” Some fans even directly questioned, “His idol plays for Al Nassr, why is he wearing a Jeddah Union shirt?”

The fact is that Garnacho has already caused discussion about his personal “beliefs” in a short period of time. Not long ago, he was questioned on social media for “disrespecting Messi” and was forced to upload a photo with Messi to set the record straight, but he still couldn’t avoid becoming the focus of controversy.
