Craig Shakespeare, former assistant manager of Leicester City during their title-winning season, died on August 2 at the age of 60.
His family announced the news on Thursday, local time. Shakespeare worked as assistant manager to Claudio Ranieri at Leicester City, helping them win the Premier League title in 2016.
Shakespeare’s family released a statement through the League Managers Association: “It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Craig Shakespeare.”
“Craig passed away at home this morning surrounded by his family. Whilst we are incredibly proud of his achievements in football, both as a player and a manager, he will forever be remembered by us as a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother and uncle.” In 2023, Craig Shakespeare was diagnosed with cancer, and he subsequently began active treatment.
The England national team, several Premier League clubs, and players like Kasper Schmeichel have all shared tributes to Shakespeare.
