According to BBC, Manchester City have agreed to sell Brazilian defender Yan Couto to Borussia Dortmund, despite the player never featuring for the Citizens.
BBC confirmed that Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund have reached an agreement on the transfer of Yan Couto, with the two sides reaching a loan-to-buy agreement that includes a mandatory buy-out clause of €30 million.
Couto signed with Manchester City in 2020, but has never played for the club. The 22-year-old had an impressive season on loan at Girona last season, scoring 1 goal and providing 10 assists in 34 appearances, helping the team finish third in La Liga and qualify for the Champions League for the first time. Couto has also been capped four times for Brazil.
The sale of Couto is a testament to Manchester City’s successful “satellite club” model. Although the Brazilian international has never played for Manchester City, he has shown his strength playing for other teams within the City Football Group in the United Arab Emirates.
On the other hand, the Borussia Dortmund management hopes that Couto can be a suitable replacement for Ian Maatsen. Maatsen ended his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund at the end of June, was recalled by Chelsea, and moved to Aston Villa for over €40 million.
