Korean media: South Korea captain Son Heung-min has been a star in the Premier League for 10 years, while Japan captain could be cut

While Yahoo Sports Japan introduced the difficult situation of Wataru Endo under Liverpool’s new manager Jurgen Klopp, it also reviewed reports from major media outlets around the world about Endo’s current situation. The Korean media’s mockery of Endo has sparked heated discussions.

The New York Times commented: “After Klopp took charge of Liverpool, Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch are all competing for the ‘number 6’ position. After a series of warm-up matches, Klopp admitted that the Hungarian and Dutch players have impressed him more. Endo is increasingly far from the starting lineup, and he has struggled under the new coach, his position has become even more marginalized.”

Korean media outlet Nate was gleeful, writing in the headline introducing Wataru Endo, “Son Heung-min has been an absolute protagonist in the Premier League for 10 years,” and commented: “It is very likely that Endo will be cut by Liverpool, which once again proves how great a player Son Heung-min is. The South Korean captain has been playing a key role in the Premier League for many years, while the captain of the Japanese national team may be shown the door after just one year at Liverpool.”

Japanese media outlets were more objective in their comments: “Liverpool may be working on a big-name signing in midfield, so Endo is more likely to be pushed out of the team. Endo needs to consider whether to find another team or stay and accept a substitute role, seizing every opportunity to play. In short, his life at Liverpool could be over in a year.”

Endo transferred to Liverpool from Stuttgart last August for €20 million. He played 29 Premier League games, accumulating 1720 minutes of playing time and scoring one goal.
