Keith Wyness, a former executive at Everton who now advises top clubs in football, has told Football Insider that a move for Mohamed Salah to Saudi Arabia is still possible, and could even happen this month.
Wyness said: “I’ve always felt this was going to happen this year. Liverpool need to make a decision, do they sell him now for what looks like £100m or do they think he’s worth more than that per season and let him go for free at the end of the season?”
“It’s not a small amount, but I think Salah deserves it. Most Liverpool fans and experts I’ve spoken to think it’s the right thing to do.
“Salah’s form last season wasn’t at his best, there were glimpses of the old Salah but he wasn’t consistent.
“So I think it will happen. He’s still highly valued in Saudi, he’s a top Egyptian player and is popular there. He’d be the poster boy of the league now Ronaldo is in the twilight of his career. I think it will happen this summer. Liverpool have been quiet this summer, but that’s understandable with a new management and coach in place. I think things will pick up later in the window.”
