Iwobi’s Rap Career: Spreading Positivity Through Music and Encouraging Young People to Avoid Violent Crime

According to ESPN, former Everton player Alex Iwobi is developing his rap career.

Earlier this summer, Iwobi became the first Premier League player to release an EP (an EP is usually a type of music album that includes several songs). He released a single called “Don’t Shoot” under the name “17” in collaboration with Don-E and Scolly.

The song mentions Moise Kean and Declan Rice, and features lyrics like “This ain’t West Ham, I wanna blow all the bubbles”. “Don’t Shoot” reflects the three’s football backgrounds, and the accompanying animated video pays homage to their upbringing in Newham, East London. The central message of the song is to deter young people from resorting to street violence.

Iwobi said: “Everyone wants to be a footballer, an artist, or make quick money, and that’s not the best option. So you see some things you don’t want to see when you’re younger, just trying to stay on the right path. I don’t want to go into detail about what I’ve been through, but I’ve seen things that I don’t want to share, and I’ve overcome them.”

He added: “I’m very grateful for the upbringing I had, because without it, I wouldn’t be who I am today. My parents, my friends, and all the people around me who supported me, they shaped me. I matured early on, and I don’t want everyone to go through what I went through. I want everyone to have a smooth journey through life, so whenever I get the chance, I’ll share this.”
