According to BBC Sport, Manchester United forward Antony recently gave an interview discussing his current form and his goals.
About his upbringing
For me, talking about my past is not easy. I didn’t just get the favela tattooed on me on a whim. I sometimes write these things on my boots because it’s something that’s always connected to me. I won’t let anyone else tell my story, because I know best what it’s like to be at the very bottom of society. Sometimes I didn’t have football boots to play, sometimes I didn’t even have enough to eat. I didn’t have my own bedroom, sometimes I slept on the sofa in the living room. When it rained heavily, my home would flood. I’ve seen many friends go down another path, some paid the ultimate price for it. I’m very aware of what I’ve been through, and my family is too. They don’t live there anymore, but I still go back to visit them during the holidays.
About his current form
I set high standards for myself, and I’m not happy with my own performance last season. A lot happened in that year, whether you like it or not, it affected my performance on the pitch. But I have a strong mentality, I’m focused on what I need, and I know this season will be completely different.
About his goals
I always set goals for myself, more goals, more assists, it’s something I need to improve on. I write them down on paper, not on my phone. Every game I record some things, about goals, shots, dribbles, etc. I do the same thing whether it’s a match or training. I usually carry these notes with me, if I leave them at home I’ll have my wife take a photo and send it to me. I’m always reflecting, how many shots should I take in a game, I can’t lose the ball, I need to score goals and assists, and also my defensive performance, I have a lot of goals.
