Akanji: Ederson is our best penalty taker, I knew he would score

In the Community Shield match, Garnacho scored as a substitute, B Silva equalized, Manchester City and Manchester United drew 1-1 in the regular 90 minutes, and went straight into a penalty shootout. In the penalty shootout, Ederson scored the key fifth-round goal, while Akanji scored the final winning goal, ultimately Manchester City narrowly won 7-6, beating Manchester United 8-7 to win the championship. After the game, Manchester City defender Akanji accepted media interviews.

Akanji told ITV: “I let others go first because obviously, when you miss a penalty, your confidence in the next one is affected. I told Ederson in training I’d go down the middle, so I did.”

“Ederson is probably our best penalty taker, as is Haaland. When Ederson took the penalty, I knew it would be a goal.”

It’s a good start to the season, I haven’t won the Community Shield before so I’m really happy to get this trophy, and we’re looking forward to hopefully getting the next one as soon as possible.”
