On August 5th, Liverpool manager Klopp spoke in an interview about the Reds’ current situation. Klopp said Liverpool’s signings need to be cautious and also commented on the team’s lack of squad depth.
Klopp said he is more focused on the team’s performance during the training camp: “I’m focused on this preseason in America, including how the team is performing, what shortcomings there are, and where we are performing satisfactorily. We have a very high bar for new signings because we already have many great players. You know, finding a suitable player is not easy, we need to be patient.”
Klopp continued: “I am now fully dedicated to the team and fully preparing for the upcoming season. As a big club like Liverpool, you always have to be cautious and see what kind of players are needed to strengthen the team. We are also constantly evaluating our own squad, seeing what we have now and what we can do next.”
Klopp said Liverpool’s squad is still a little thin: “I think our competitors have stronger squad depth than us. If you include all the young players who can’t play, then we do have a lot, but after that they will go back to their age group. Most of our positions have two players, but that’s normal, we have to face multiple fronts like the Premier League and the Champions League. Other big clubs have even more than two players in each position.”
