Arteta: I felt something different about Jesus this summer

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was interviewed after his side’s 4-1 friendly victory over Leverkusen in the early hours of August 8th.

Reporter: Are you satisfied with the team’s current state?

Arteta: “Of course, we learned a lot of valuable things from the game. We played well. The opposition was a good team, and we performed well.”

Reporter: How are the players?

Arteta: “Timber is still uncomfortable with his foot and we didn’t want to risk him. We hope that [Kieran] Tierney recovers in the best way. [Ethan] Nwaneri and [Reiss] Nelson have shown their personalities and qualities, and I am suppressing their playing time. If they can demonstrate their abilities, I will let them play.”

Reporter: Havertz and Trossard had a good chemistry last season. Will they continue to partner up this season?

Arteta: “They are both excellent players. The competition is tough in that position. I think we can still improve in that position on the left side.”

Reporter: How is Jesus doing?

Arteta: “When I saw him this summer, my first feeling was that he was a little different. I could feel that special energy from him. Including the way he ran on the field, he looked fantastic!”
