According to The Sun, Everton are facing the threat of a third points deduction from the Premier League ahead of the 2024/25 season.
The report claims that the Premier League have stated that Everton’s financial records for the 2022/23 season failed to meet the requirements of their Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), with a breach of £6.5 million.
Last season, Everton were already deducted points twice for financial irregularities: in November they were docked 10 points for their 2021/22 accounts, which was later reduced to six points on appeal; and in April they were docked two points for their 2022/23 accounts. Thankfully, the Toffees were able to secure Premier League survival with a strong performance despite losing eight points, finishing 14 points clear of the relegation zone.
It is understood that while both Everton and the Premier League are urging the Independent Commission for Financial Fair Play (ICFFP) to expedite the process, they are yet to indicate when a decision will be reached. Everton maintain that despite the club’s new stadium construction project, their financial records for last season will not result in another breach of Premier League regulations.
