According to TA, Manchester United will feature a sponsor logo on the back of their shirts for the upcoming season, a first in the club’s history. The logo will be visible on the back of Man Utd’s shirts for Saturday’s Community Shield match against Manchester City at Wembley Stadium. The design on the back of the shirt is said to be a Microsoft computer product as part of the club’s sponsorship agreement with Qualcomm subsidiary Snapdragon.
Under the agreement, the sponsorship on the back of Man Utd shirts will only be featured for domestic cup matches (FA Cup and League Cup), as well as Women’s Super League (WSL) matches. The advertising will not be present for Premier League and Europa League matches. This innovative move comes from Man Utd’s three-year sponsorship deal with Snapdragon, which came into effect at the start of the season and is worth a total of $75 million (£59 million), covering jersey sponsorship across Man Utd’s men’s, women’s, and academy teams.
The contract also includes a two-year automatic renewal option, meaning that over five years, Snapdragon’s total sponsorship deal with Man Utd will be worth $375 million. The deal was initiated following a meeting between Man Utd’s new CEO, Omar Berrada, and Snapdragon’s CMO, Don McGuire, in Los Angeles. During the meeting, Man Utd executives and first-team players visited Qualcomm’s headquarters in San Diego.
Fans may have already noticed the Snapdragon flame ball logo appearing on the back of shirts during the US pre-season tour, part of the Qualcomm sponsorship deal that grants them the right to promote brands collaborating with Snapdragon. Snapdragon is a global chip supplier for around 3 billion devices, including smartphones, computers, VR, gaming equipment, and even cars. This time, they have chosen Microsoft CoPilot+ computer as the first brand to appear on the Man Utd shirt.
The logo will be placed below the players’ numbers and is expected to be seen in WSL, academy matches, and the FA Cup and League Cup matches Man Utd participates in. It’s worth noting that while Microsoft products will appear on the shirt, this does not necessarily mean that Microsoft is a partner of Man Utd or enjoys related rights. This is simply a way for Snapdragon to promote its processor-driven hardware brands.
TA previously reported that Snapdragon also has the right to use the front of Man Utd’s shirt for charity promotions in one game each season, supporting social causes.
