The UK’s Daily Mirror has reported that despite the challenging economic climate in Britain, the sharp rise in Premier League jersey prices has attracted widespread attention.
The report points out: The average price of adult fan edition jerseys for the 20 Premier League teams this season has surged to £72.60 (approximately ¥663), a staggering 53.2% increase compared to £47.40 a decade ago. Media outlets have described this surge as “eye-watering.”
Business experts have indicated that taking into account inflation over the past decade, a more reasonable price would be around £63.04 on average for the 20 Premier League team jerseys. However, the actual prices are significantly higher.
Chelsea and Tottenham’s jerseys are the most expensive among English clubs this new season, with their adult fan edition jerseys priced at £84.99 and £85.00 respectively (approximately ¥776), matching the price of England’s national team fan edition jerseys. Their player edition jerseys are even higher, priced at £124.99 and £125.00 respectively.
Following these two teams in price are seven clubs: Arsenal, Aston Villa, Fulham, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Newcastle United. Their adult fan edition jerseys are priced at £80.00.
Chelsea’s youth jerseys are also the most expensive, reaching £64.99. Fulham, Liverpool, Manchester City, and West Ham United all have youth jerseys priced at £60.00, while Tottenham’s youth jerseys are priced at £55.00.
The price hikes in Premier League jerseys have also impacted lower leagues. For instance, Sheffield Wednesday, a Championship team, has priced their adult fan edition jerseys at £69.00, while Leeds United has priced theirs at £65.00. These high prices have sparked some controversy.
