In an interview with the Manchester Evening News, Bernardo Silva, who came on as a substitute and scored in the Community Shield, warned that the upcoming season will be a tough one for Manchester City.
Manchester City’s pre-season began on July 15th and if everything goes according to Pep Guardiola’s plan, the season will continue until July 13th 2025 – the date of the Club World Cup final. Bernardo Silva expressed his concern about the long and arduous season: “Pep [Guardiola] knows that due to FIFA, UEFA, the Premier League and all the cups, our schedule is very busy, possibly up to 70-80 games in a season. It’s not easy for the players. Our job now is to prepare seriously, to start another long season as healthy as possible.”
Bernardo is one of Manchester City’s five captains, and he has a responsibility to ensure his teammates are still motivated to fight for the league title, even after winning so many trophies and with such a demanding season ahead: “All our rivals are trying to sign new players, they look stronger. Arsenal are getting better every year, we knew that. Liverpool have always been strong, as have the other teams, such as Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester United, even though they weren’t as strong as Liverpool and Arsenal last season. We have to be ready”.
Manchester City’s transfer activity has been less intense than their rivals this summer, but Bernardo points out that winning every year is impossible, though they will fight hard this year: “The players in our team don’t like to lose, we will prepare for the new season. We know it will be tough. You can’t win [the title] forever, eventually we’ll lose it. Hopefully, it’s not this season! But one day you will lose it, it’s going to happen.”
