Arteta refused to comment on the transfer rumors about Merino, but when talking about the transfer window still being open, he said: “Before the season starts, we have two goals. Then, there are some opportunities in the market to improve the team, we have to focus on that, and that’s what we are working on.”
Regarding what the team needs to take the next step and win the league title, he said: “Breaking more records again, earning more points, that’s for sure. What we did last season was not enough. The competition we are in, it’s getting harder every single season, we really need to step it up again.”
When asked if Arsenal need to sign a striker, Arteta said: “We already have great strikers.”
On whether the team is ready for the new season, Arteta said: “We are really excited. It’s been too long for us, we have missed the competition so much. We are very eager to start, really excited about it. We had a very challenging preseason, but we managed to adapt, it was a great challenge for everyone. Playing in different conditions, we took it as an opportunity and a good challenge. The team looks very sharp, eager to play.”
