Guardiola: Grealish may miss Premier League opener, ‘we don’t want to take risks’

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said that Jack Grealish could miss their Premier League opener against Chelsea. Guardiola said that while Grealish’s injury is not serious, the club is taking a cautious approach and doesn’t want to risk it.

Grealish impressed during City’s pre-season tour of the United States, but picked up an injury in training and missed the Community Shield against Manchester United.

“He was feeling a little bit uncomfortable the last couple of days,” Guardiola said of Grealish. “It is not a big problem, but we don’t want to take a risk. It is a blow for us because he has the rhythm, he is aggressive, and he is always involved in the game. So, he is not going to be there against Chelsea, probably.”

Grealish made 36 appearances for City in the 2023-24 season, scoring three goals and providing three assists. He was not involved in the European Championship this summer, which helped him to manage his fitness. But his injury at the start of the season is a surprise.
