The Telegraph reports that Chelsea are set to restart talks with Atletico Madrid over the potential transfers of Conor Gallagher and João Félix.
The report states: Chelsea are planning a fresh round of talks with Atletico this weekend in an attempt to break the deadlock over the two deals. Gallagher was forced to return to London this week after a proposed move to Stamford Bridge for Omorodion collapsed, stalling the midfielder’s switch to Atletico.
Atletico are now in need of funds to push through a deal for Gallagher, and the Spanish club are also keen to offload Félix to Chelsea, who are also facing competition from Aston Villa for the Portuguese forward. Félix is keen on a return to Chelsea – where he spent a half-season on loan – and there are indications he would be willing to adapt to the club’s wage structure, meaning a deal is now possible. Of course, this is all predicated on Chelsea agreeing a transfer fee with Atletico.
On the other hand, Atletico boss Diego Simeone has given Gallagher assurances that he is keen to sign the midfielder, and Spanish sources remain confident the deal can be pushed through.
The Telegraph notes that Chelsea’s transfer team is currently very busy, negotiating these deals with Atletico, while also trying to secure a deal with Napoli for forward Victor Osimhen, with the Italian club keen to land Romelu Lukaku from Stamford Bridge.
This was confirmed by the manager. In a pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea’s game with Manchester City, Mauricio Pochettino stated: “Conor has returned to training, but not with the first team. He is trying to find a solution [to his future] and we will see what happens. Hopefully, we can get something that works for Conor and the club. Félix and Osimhen? They are not our players yet. It’s not right to talk about Atletico or Napoli players. The club is fully aware of what I think and what needs to be done. Before the window closes, we’re open to signing some players.”
