The Daily Mail can exclusively reveal that Man United staff have been forced to eat their meals in toilets as part of the club’s latest cost-cutting measures.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has implemented a number of measures to save the club money since taking over football operations. The financial review has led to 250 redundancies at the club.
Now, there has been a huge change to the club staff’s meal plan. On matchdays, they are given a lunchbox with a sandwich, cereal bar, crisps and a soft drink. Some staff claim they are being served leftovers from food previously intended for corporate guests.
Man United have said the food served to staff is the same as that provided for fans, but not leftovers, instead it is specifically prepared for the staff. The club added that the review found that a lot of food in the lunch boxes was regularly left uneaten and wasted.
Some workers have even alleged they are now forced to eat in toilets. “They have set up a table next to four toilet cubicles. You come out of the cubicle and find people sitting there eating in front of you.” Man United responded by claiming the area was a separate room with an attached bathroom.
Other perks for senior staff, such as pre-match parties, post-match lunches, and hotel stays, have been axed completely, while these staff and managers are no longer allowed to take friends and family to watch United games at Wembley.
