Carragher Criticizes Chelsea’s Félix Signing: “Where Does He Play? There’s No Room in the Dressing Room”

Félix was left out of Atlético Madrid’s opening La Liga match against Villarreal, with a move to Chelsea seemingly imminent.

Chelsea’s dressing room is already incredibly crowded. Days ago, a video surfaced showing Chelsea players struggling to train effectively in a packed gym. In their Premier League opener, manager Mauricio Pochettino had to leave 14 players out of the squad.

Yet, Chelsea continue to sign new players. They recently acquired Pedro Neto and Félix’s arrival is expected to be announced soon.

Speaking about Chelsea’s transfer activity, former England international and now football pundit Jamie Carragher criticized the club harshly: “Chelsea need to stop buying players and players should stop joining Chelsea. If I was a player, I’d ask myself: ‘Why am I going there?’ The only reason you’d sign that contract is because your agent would say: ‘We can get you a seven-year deal, that’s seven years of guaranteed money.’ I’d say: ‘Go and get yourself a four-year deal at a decent club. You’ll get your pay rise anyway when you’re due a new contract.'”

He also pointed out the lack of clarity in Chelsea’s transfer strategy: “It’s not a young or exciting team. They’ve signed Félix, where does he play? They signed Pedro Neto last week, where does he play when you have Cole Palmer? Enzo Fernández, a £100 million player, how do you fit him in? Nkunku?”

“Great football clubs do need competition, but in all the teams I played for, there were seven or eight players who knew they would play every week. There were another six or seven players competing for three positions, and then another six or seven players knew they were backups. That’s a healthy squad.”

Finally, he questioned Félix’s move: “If you want to know where Félix is going to play, I have one question: where does he change in the training ground? How are all these players fitting into one dressing room? How is training even organized?”
