Official Statement from Eagle Football Holdings: Intentions to Sell Crystal Palace Shares and Fully Acquire Everton

August 23, John Textor, chairman of Eagle Football Holdings, recently issued an official statement that after failing to acquire Crystal Palace, he will sell his shares in the club and focus on acquiring another Premier League team – Everton.

The official statement is as follows:

We can confirm that we are interested in selling our stake in Crystal Palace, primarily to facilitate a connection with Everton Football Club.

We remain proud of our contributions to Crystal Palace Football Club, and we did indeed submit an offer to acquire the remaining shares of Crystal Palace, at a valuation well above our original investment. We did this because we firmly believe Crystal Palace has become a more valuable club since 2021, and we have the utmost respect for our partners and would have delivered a fair price in all circumstances.

However, our offer was not reciprocated, and we believe our partners at Crystal Palace, like us, desire to maintain ownership of the club. While we are proud to have been part of the Crystal Palace resurgence, Crystal Palace is an independent club run by a strong individual who has achieved a level of sustainability extremely rare in today’s Premier League. The conglomerate sports model of our Eagle Football Holdings is not an ideal fit for Crystal Palace.

Previously, Textor had secured the right to acquire Everton, but the Premier League’s strict rules prohibit the same individual from owning two clubs simultaneously, meaning he must first relinquish his stake in Crystal Palace before taking the next step with Everton Football Club.

Textor’s Eagle Football Holdings is not just focused on English football; they also own Lyon in Ligue 1 and Botafogo in Brazil.
