According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, Brighton are set to sign midfielder Matt O’Riley from Scottish club Celtic and full-back Kaan Ayhan from Turkish club Fenerbahçe, with both transfers confirmed with a “here we go”.
Matt O’Riley, 23, holds dual Danish and English citizenship. Standing at 189cm tall, he is a versatile central midfielder capable of playing as a central attacking midfielder, defensive midfielder, and even an attacking midfielder. Last season, he made 49 appearances across all competitions for Celtic, scoring 19 goals and providing 18 assists.
Reports suggest that Brighton’s acquisition of Matt O’Riley will cost a fixed fee of £25 million, with a further £5 million in potential add-ons. This is an exciting signing for the Seagulls.
Kaan Ayhan, 24, holds dual Turkish and Dutch citizenship. He primarily plays as a left-back or wing-back, but can also be deployed on the right side or even in midfield. Last season, he made 51 appearances across all competitions for Fenerbahçe, contributing 3 goals and 5 assists.
It is understood that Brighton will pay €30 million for Ayhan, and he is expected to sign a 5-year contract with the club upon completing his medical. With this transfer confirmed, 20-year-old left-back, Tariq Lamptey, will be loaned out to Sevilla.
