On August 15, Premier League legend Darren Bent’s 10-year-old son was training under his guidance and has already been added to Coventry’s academy roster. Bent stated he wouldn’t send his son to any of the Big Six academies, as the path to stardom would be too challenging.
In the Premier League, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Tottenham form the renowned Big Six. They are all incredibly competitive in both the league and European competitions, boasting numerous world-class stars in their squads.
Speaking about his son, Bent said he wouldn’t let him join the youth ranks of any of the Big Six: “I wouldn’t send my son to any academy of a big club, when you play at youth level the aim is to get into the first team. When I was in academy football, Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham all had promising young players, but only West Ham had the best chance of their youngsters getting into the first team. Had I started at Arsenal or other big clubs’ academies, I wouldn’t have had a successful career.”
