August 15. Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou confirmed in a pre-match press conference that midfielder Yves Bissouma has been banned for one game by the club after inhaling nitrous oxide, missing the Premier League opener against Leicester City.
Postecoglou said: “He made a really poor decision, and we want to try and help him deal with that. As a club we want to try and ensure that he doesn’t do the same thing again. “
“There need to be some sanctions in place, some education, some clarity around why it was wrong. Hopefully, he can move on from it.”
“He won’t be available for the first Premier League game. But there is also a relationship building between Bissouma and myself and the group, and that’s something he needs to work hard to earn back. Hopefully, we can help him recognize that this decision affects more than just him, and get him to make better choices in the future.”
Bissouma issued a statement on Sunday evening, apologizing for his “serious lapse in judgment” and insisting that he was aware of the risks associated with nitrous oxide.
