August 15 – According to British media outlet TEAM Talk, Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell is deeply unhappy with manager Mauricio Pochettino’s public questioning of his abilities and will demand a move away this summer transfer window.
Pochettino had previously responded to a journalist’s question about Chilwell’s lack of playing time in pre-season friendlies (he only played 64 minutes across six games) during an interview.
Pochettino stated, “Chilwell is a left-back at the moment, and his situation is a little delicate. We are trying to find solutions for him in his position. He might need some time. With small adjustments, we hope to find their best positions, not their future at the club. We want players who can perform at 100% in their position.”
These comments were perceived by Chilwell as a public questioning of his ability and a potential discard by Pochettino. According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are considering a bid for Chilwell to address their left-back crisis following Luke Shaw’s injury.
Chilwell’s current market value is €28 million, compared to the €50.2 million Chelsea spent to acquire him.
