Barcelona are yet to meet their financial targets and still need to raise €60m to register new signing Olmo. Therefore, the club have considered selling de Jong to generate funds. However, Barcelona face two major obstacles: de Jong himself is reluctant to leave, and he is currently injured and unable to return to the pitch in the short term.

Earlier reports suggested that Barcelona hoped Manchester United would make another bid for de Jong. The Mail reported that Manchester United have indeed reignited their interest in de Jong and made a €50m bid, but Barcelona are not satisfied with the amount.

In the summer transfer window of 2022, Manchester United had reached an agreement with Barcelona, willing to pay €60m in fixed transfer fee for de Jong, plus substantial add-ons. However, the deal ultimately fell through due to de Jong’s unwillingness to move.
