Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has reportedly acquired a minority stake in Premier League club Ipswich.
A lifelong Ipswich supporter, Sheeran has purchased a 1.4% stake in the club following their promotion. Ipswich said Sheeran will have long-term use of an executive box at the club’s Portman Road home, but he will not be joining the club board due to his investment being “passive and minority”.
Sheeran has been Ipswich’s main shirt sponsor since 2021 and also designed the club’s Suffolk-inspired third kit.
The 33-year-old said: “For any football fan, it is a dream to be part of owning your supported club and I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity.”
“I’ve lived in Suffolk since I was three years old, and while I travel the world and sometimes feel like an outsider in big cities, Suffolk and Ipswich always feel like home for me, a community where I feel a sense of belonging and protection.”
“Being an Ipswich fan is a rollercoaster, there’s highs and lows, but that’s the beauty of football, experiencing those peaks and troughs. I’m not a voting shareholder or a board member, this is just me investing in a club I love, and they’ve given me so much back, so please don’t ask me for transfer suggestions or tactical advice.”
“I’m excited for the start of the Premier League this weekend. Come on the Town!”
Ipswich chairman Mark Ashton added: “Ed Sheeran and his team have undoubtedly been exceptional in their support over the last three years, and his investment feels like a natural progression of our relationship.”
“As one of the biggest artists in the world, he has given us so much of his time and has provided the club with huge global exposure, asking for so little in return, which highlights the special nature of our relationship.”
Ipswich begin their Premier League campaign this weekend at home to Liverpool.
