On August 24th, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola held a press conference ahead of their Premier League match against Ipswich Town.
On Gundogan
It was a surprise, unexpected, but it happened. I know him very well, not just me, but the club staff, his teammates. He showed a consistent high level at Barcelona last season, and he played many games. When the opportunity to re-sign him arose, I didn’t even hesitate for a second. We are very happy that he can come back. Of course, he is no longer a young player, and the reason we decided to bring him back was his consistent performance in La Liga and European competition. Returning to City, he doesn’t even need any time to adapt, he knows my demands and what he needs to do. If he’s fit, he’ll play tomorrow. Gundogan didn’t come back to retire, but to put on his boots and perform at his best. As for whether he will return to the 5-man leadership group, I can’t say.
On Savio and Rodri
Savio is recovering well, Rodri hasn’t recovered to his best yet. They only participated in some of the team’s training sessions. There will be more training today and tomorrow, and we will make a decision then.
On Sterling
He is still a Chelsea player. I miss the time Sterling played alongside us, and I wish him all the best.
On Whether City Will Continue To Sign Players
I don’t know. I don’t think so. I don’t know what will happen, like injuries, hopefully we won’t have them, or unexpected options on the market that are financially feasible, or a strategic need. For now, I don’t think so.
