According to British media outlet The Telegraph, Liverpool have no plans to further strengthen their midfield this summer after their pursuit of Real Sociedad midfielder Zubimendi fell through. They will rely on their current squad to fill the positions.
Earlier, Real Sociedad midfielder Zubimendi, after considering for a few days, ultimately declined Liverpool’s invitation. It is expected he will accept a new contract with Real Sociedad, dealing another blow to Liverpool’s transfer market efforts this summer. As of now, they remain the only club in the entire Premier League that hasn’t made any signings.
The Telegraph reports that following this failed transfer, Liverpool will not actively seek other replacements for the No. 6 position. Based on the personnel arrangements in the previous pre-season matches, Klopp may try using either Gravenberch or Curtis Jones as starting defensive midfielders in the new season, or continue to rely on the midfield combination of Mac Allister + Szoboszlai + Endo. Additionally, Arnold is also considered a potential option for the defensive midfield position.
Some reporters have also pointed out that Liverpool’s transfer market strategy has always been more opportunistic, they will only take action if they are certain a player can truly contribute to improving the team’s strength.
