Police drop investigation into domestic violence allegations against Manchester United forward Antony after finding no evidence in a year

Brazilian police have dropped their investigation into domestic violence allegations against Manchester United winger Antony after finding no evidence following a year-long inquiry, reports The Sun.

The 24-year-old Brazilian forward was accused of domestic abuse and mistreatment of his former partner Gabriela Cavallin last year. In addition, two other women accused Antony of assault, but one of them dropped their charges. Antony vehemently denied all of the accusations and was given a break from Manchester United last season to deal with the allegations.

According to Brazilian news outlet Globo, after a year-long investigation, the Brazilian police did not find any evidence of wrongdoing by Antony.

Last year, Cavallin gave multiple interviews accusing Antony of assaulting her while she was pregnant in June 2022, beating her and causing bodily harm in January 2023, and throwing a glass at her in May, causing an injury to her finger. This week, Cavallin told The Sun she feels “completely destroyed” and is “so disappointed” that the winger is allowed to return to football.

With the Brazilian police finding no evidence and dropping the investigation, Antony is hoping to focus on his football. He was hampered by the off-field drama last season and only managed three goals and two assists in 1910 minutes across all competitions for Manchester United. He recently said: “I am clearly unhappy with my performance, but too much has happened in my personal life in the last year and it has impacted my game. There is no doubt that everything I have been through has been very difficult for me and my family. I have learned a lot and I have grown and matured. I am convinced that I have learned a lot from adversity.”
