On August 17th, Manchester United secured a 1-0 victory over Fulham in their opening Premier League match. Notably absent from the squad was Jadon Sancho, whose absence was explained by manager Erik ten Hag as a result of an ear infection.
Ten Hag addressed Sancho’s absence, stating: “He has an ear infection, and he was not fully fit to play. Even though Sancho could have played, if I had a choice, I would choose players who are more suitable for this game. I could only put 20 players in the squad, we need enough squad depth.”
Ten Hag continued: “In this long season, we can’t use the same players every game, we need enough substitutes and we need to keep a good balance. It’s always frustrating for a player not to be in the squad, but we have a lot of games to play, everyone will get their chance, and they need to prove their worth.”
